If you have a high prescription, you have probably been told at some point that laser vision correction is not for you. Maybe your glasses are thick. Maybe contacts dry out your eyes by noon. Maybe you have just accepted that this is how it is going to be.
I am here to tell you it does not have to be.
The EVO ICL at Visionary Eye, or Implantable Collamer Lens, is one of the most exciting developments in vision correction. It is designed specifically for the patients that All-Laser LASIK cannot always help, and it delivers results that are often described as high-definition vision.
How It Works
The ICL is a small, flexible lens made from a biocompatible material called Collamer. During a brief procedure, I place this lens inside your eye through a tiny incision, positioning it between your iris and your natural lens. It works with your eye, not against it.
The lens stays in place permanently, but here is what makes it unique: it is completely reversible. If your vision changes significantly over time or a new technology emerges, the lens can be removed or replaced. That kind of flexibility does not exist with LASIK.
Who Is a Good Candidate
The EVO ICL is ideal for patients with moderate to high myopia, typically prescriptions between negative 3 and negative 20 diopters. It also corrects astigmatism. If you have been told your cornea thickness and your optionss are too thin for LASIK or your prescription is too high, the ICL was designed for exactly your situation.
Candidates are generally between 21 and 45 years old with a stable prescription. During your consultation at Visionary Eye, we run a full battery of diagnostics to measure your eye anatomy and confirm that the ICL is the right fit.
What the Procedure Is Like
The entire procedure takes about 15 to 20 minutes for both eyes. We use numbing drops, so you are comfortable throughout. There are no stitches. Most patients notice dramatically improved vision within hours.
Recovery is quick. Most people return to work within a day or two. There is minimal discomfort, and the visual results tend to be immediate and striking.
Why I Believe in It
I offer every major vision correction procedure at Visionary Eye because I believe in matching the solution to the patient, not the other way around. The EVO ICL fills a gap that LASIK cannot. It gives options to people who were told they had none.
That matters to me. Because telling someone “sorry, you are not a LASIK candidate” and leaving it at that is not good enough. Not when the technology exists to help them.
If you want to know whether the EVO ICL is right for you, schedule a consultation a consultation at our Plano office. We will measure everything, explain everything, and give you a clear answer.
