You have done the research. You have decided LASIK is right for you. Now you want to know what happens after you walk out of our office in Plano.
Here is the honest timeline. Not the best-case-scenario version. The real one.
Day of Surgery
The procedure itself takes about 15 minutes for both eyes. You will be in our office for roughly an hour total, including prep and post-op instructions. When you leave, your vision will be blurry, like looking through a foggy window. Your eyes will water. You will want to keep them closed.
Go home. Take a nap. Seriously, the nap is the best thing you can do. Most of the initial discomfort passes while you sleep. When you wake up a few hours later, you will likely notice that you can already see better than you could without glasses that morning.
Day One
You will come back to our Plano office for your first follow-up. I will check your eyes personally. Most patients are seeing 20/20 or close to it by this point. Your eyes may still feel slightly dry or scratchy. We will give you preservative-free drops and a clear schedule for using them.
Week One
Vision continues to sharpen. Some mild dryness is normal. Avoid rubbing your eyes, skip the pool and hot tub, and hold off on eye makeup. Most people return to work the next day. Some take two days. You will be functional almost immediately.
Month One
By now, your eyes have done most of their healing. Any fluctuations in vision have typically stabilized. Dryness, if you had any, is usually resolving. We will see you again around this mark to confirm everything is on track.
Three to Six Months
Full stabilization. This is when your final prescription settles. For most patients, this happened weeks ago. For a small percentage, the eyes take a bit longer to reach their final clarity.
What Makes Recovery Different Here
At Visionary Eye, your follow-up is not with a technician reading from a script. It is with me. I look at your scans, I examine your corneas, and I answer your questions directly. If something feels off at any point during recovery, you call us. Not an answering service. Us.
Recovery from LASIK is faster than most people expect. But knowing what to expect makes it even easier.
